Indians on Sunday paid rich tributes to Subhash Chandra Bose on his 125th birth anniversary which is celebrated as Parakram Diwas or Bravery Day every year.
Netaji as Subhash Chandra Bose is fondly called was born on 23 January 1897 in a wealthy and privileged Bengali family.
He became the president of the Indian National Congress in 1938 and was re-elected in 1939. However, he resigned after some serious differences arose between him and Mahatma Gandhi. Later, Gandhi led Congress also ousted him from the party.
He escaped British India in 1941 and subsequently founded the Indian National Army (INA) in Singapore with German and Japanese cooperation. With INA he attempted to forcefully oust British colonial rule from India.
However, the defeat of the axis power in the 2nd World War forced him to withdraw even though he had liberated the northeast Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Today, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the Indians in paying tribute to him on his 125th birth anniversary. In a tweet, Modi said, “I bow to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his Jayanti. Every Indian is proud of his monumental contribution to our nation”.
सभी देशवासियों को पराक्रम दिवस की ढेरों शुभकामनाएं।
