New Delhi: Senior farmer leaders of the Punjab-based Kirti Kisan Union met with Dr. Abed Elrazeg Abu Jazer, Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of the State of Palestine in New Delhi on Thursday, to extend their support for the Palestinian people, reported the Indian Express. The union donated a sum of Rs 5 lakh as humanitarian aid to help those suffering amidst the ongoing conflict in Palestine.
The delegation, led by Raminder Singh Patiala, Press Secretary of the Kirti Kisan Union, expressed solidarity with the oppressed Palestinians, condemning what they referred to as “the genocide” and the grave humanitarian crisis faced by the people of Palestine. Singh Patiala called the violence a “dark chapter in the history of human civilisation” and emphasized that the donation, though modest, was a gesture of support during such dire times.
“The incidents in Palestine remind Punjabis, especially the Sikh community, of the atrocities during medieval times, Partition, and the 1984 riots,” Singh Patiala said, highlighting the deep sense of empathy shared by many in Punjab with the Palestinian cause.
Rajinder Singh Deep Singh Wala, General Secretary of the Kirti Kisan Union, also addressed the ongoing crisis, urging the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and other organizations to extend their support to Palestine. He called for a collective national effort to assist those affected by the conflict, emphasizing that the people of India, particularly the Sikh community, could relate to the suffering of Palestinians given their historical experiences.
“We have raised our voice for a permanent truce and called on the United Nations to find a sustainable solution to the Palestine issue,” Wala said. He further mentioned that the Kirti Kisan Union was among the first in Punjab to organize demonstrations in support of Palestine, and possibly the first farmer union in India to extend financial aid to the Palestinian cause.
The Kirti Kisan Union is affiliated with the All India Kisan Mazdoor Sabha (AIKMS), which has supported the union’s stance on the Palestinian issue. The union leaders reiterated that their call for international intervention is aimed at bringing a lasting resolution to the conflict in the region.
The donation and the continued advocacy by the Kirti Kisan Union underscore the growing international awareness and support for Palestine, as the global community grapples with the long-standing geopolitical issue.
And what is it with you? You do not fight in the cause of GOD and for the oppressed men, women, and children who cry out, “Our Lord! Deliver us from this land of oppressors! Appoint for us a saviour; appoint for us a helper—all by Your grace.” – Holy Quran 4:75
