It may be noted that COVID-19 has resulted in a massive increase in unemployment of at least 10 million people, on top of the 30 million people who were already unemployed in 2019.
According to a data released by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), the unemployment rate in India increased to 7.83% in April from 7.60% in March 2022.
According to the data, the urban unemployment rate increased to 9.22% in April from 8.28% the previous month, while the rural unemployment rate decreased to 7.18% from 7.29%.
Sluggish domestic demand and the slow pace of economic recovery amid rising prices, according to economists, have hurt job opportunities.
