In a significant boost to Indian sports spirit, the Indian city of Mumbai was elected as the host of the 2023 International Olympic Committee (IOC) session earlier today.
IOC Members took this decision at the 139th IOC Session held in Beijing today where a majority of delegates endorsed Mumbai’s bid to host the next International Olympic Committee Session in 2023.
This assumes relevance as the next IOC meeting in 2023 could see the election for the 2030 Winter Olympics host country as well as the sports program for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
What is International Olympic Committee Session?
An International Olympic Committee Session is the Olympic committee’s annual meeting of members who deliberate on and decide key activities of the global Olympics movement, including the adoption or amendment of the Olympic Charter, election of IOC members and office bearers, and election of the Olympic Games host city.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed happiness over India being chosen as the host for the 2023 International Olympic Committee Session.
Tweeting about the same, the Prime Minister’s office said;
“It is gladdening to note that India has been chosen to host the 2023 International Olympic Committee Session. I am confident this will be a memorable IOC session and will lead to positive outcomes for world sports”, said the PM.
