Assembly and Gathering Rules

Sahih al-Bukhari Vol 8, Book 74, Number 286, The Prophet said, “A man should not make another man get up from his (the latter’s) seat (in a gathering) in order to sit there.”

Averting people from Islam

Al-Quran 8:36 Surely the disbelievers spend their wealth to hinder others from the Path of Allah. They will continue to spend to the point of regret. Then they will be defeated and the disbelievers will be driven into Hell.

Brotherly Obligations

Sahih al-Bukhari Vol. 8, Book 76, Hadith 541: Narrated Abu Huraira Allah’s Messenger said, “Whoever has wronged his brother, should ask for his pardon (before his death), as (in the Hereafter) there will be neither a Dinar nor a Dirham. When he washes his feet, his sins exit through his feet.'”

Sahih Muslim 223: Abu Malik at-Ash’ari reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Cleanliness is half of faith and al-Hamdu Lillah (all praise and gratitude is for Allah alone) fills the scale, and Subhan Allah (Glory be to Allah) and al-Hamdu Lillah fill up what is between the heavens and the earth, and prayer is a light, and charity is proof (of one’s faith) and endurance is a brightness and the Holy Qur’an is a proof on your behalf or against you. Clothing Norms

Jami` at-Tirmidhi 135: Abu Hurairah narrated that: the Prophet said: “Whoever engages in sexual intercourse with a menstruating woman, or a woman in her anus, consults a soothsayer, then he has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad.”

The recompense for an injury is an injury equal thereto (in degree): but if a person forgives and makes reconciliation, his reward is due from Allah: for (Allah) loveth not those who do wrong. But indeed if any do help and defend themselves after a wrong (done) to them, against such there is no cause of blame. The blame is only against those who oppress men and wrong-doing and insolently transgress beyond bounds through the land, defying right and justice: for such there will be a penalty grievous. But indeed if any show patience and forgive, that would truly be an exercise of courageous will and resolution in the conduct of affairs.

Sunan Abi Dawud 3342: Narrated Abu Musa al-Ash’ari: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: After the grave sins which Allah has prohibited the greatest sin is that a man dies while he has debt due from him and does not leave anything to pay it off, and meets Him with it.

Sickness Expiates Minor Sins

Sahih Muslim 2571a ‘Abdullah reported: I visited Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as he was running a high temperature. I touched his body with my hand and said to him: Allah’s Messenger, you are running a high temperature, whereupon Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: Yes, it is so. I comparatively have a more severe fever than any one of you. I said: Is it because there is a double reward in store for you? Thereupon Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: Yes, it is so. And Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) again said: When a Muslim falls ill, his compensation is that his minor sins are obliterated just as leaves fall (in autumn). In the hadith transmitted on the authority of Zubair, there is (no mention of these words):” I touched his body with my hands.”

Sahih Muslim 2575 Jabir b. Abdullah reported that Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) visited Umm Sa’ib or Umm Musayyib and said: Umm Sa’ib or Umm Musayyib. why is it that you are shivering? She said:” It is fever and may it not be blessed by Allah, whereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Don’t curse fever for it expiates the sin of the children of Adam just as a furnace removes the alloy of iron.

Suicide

Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 4, Book 56, Number 669: Narrated Jundub: Allah’s Apostle said, “Amongst the nations, before you, there was a man who got a wound, and growing impatient (with its pain), he took a knife and cut his hand with it and the blood did not stop till he died. Allah said, ‘My Slave hurried to bring death upon himself so I have forbidden him (to enter) Paradise.’ “

Supporting the Weak and Downtrodden from Oppressors

Sunan Ibn Majah 4010 It was narrated that Jabir said: “When the emigrants who had crossed the sea came back to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), he said: ‘Why don’t you tell me of the strange things that you saw in the land of Abyssinia?’ Some young men among them said: ‘Yes, O Messenger of Allah. While we were sitting, one of their elderly nuns came past, carrying a vessel of water on her head. She passed by some of their youth, one of whom placed his hand between her shoulders and pushed her. She fell on her knees and her vessel broke. When she stood up, she turned to him and said: “You will come to know, O traitor, that when Allah sets up the Footstool and gathers the first and the last, and hands and feet speak of what they used to earn, you will come to know your case and my case in His presence soon.’” The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘She spoke the truth, she spoke the truth. How can Allah purify any people (of sin) when they do not support their weak from their strong?’”

Suspicion

Al-Quran 49:12 O ye who believe! Avoid suspicion as much (as possible): for suspicion in some cases is a sin: And spy not on each other behind their backs. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? Nay, ye would abhor it… But fear Allah: For Allah is Oft-Returning, Most Merciful.

Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1988: Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah said: “Beware of Zann (suspicion), for indeed Zann is the falsest of speech.”

Sunan Abi Dawud 4917: Abu Hurairah reported the Messenger of Allah (May peace be upon him) as saying: Avoid suspicion for suspicion is the most lying form of talk. Do not be inquisitive about one another, or spy on one another.

Tattooing

Sahih al-Bukhari Volume 7, Book 72, Number 815: Narrated ‘Abdullah: Allah has cursed those women who practice tattooing and those who get themselves tattooed, and those who remove their face hairs, and those who create a space between their teeth artificially to look beautiful, and such women as changing the features created by Allah. Why then should I not curse those whom the Prophet has cursed? And that is in Allah’s Book. i.e. His Saying: ‘And what the Apostle gives you take it and what he forbids you to abstain (from it).’ (59.7)

Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 7, Book 72, Number 827: Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Apostle said, “The evil eye is a fact,” and he forbade tattooing.

Trials and Tribulations in Life

Sunan Ibn Majah 4035 Mu’awiyah said: “I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) say: ‘There is nothing left of this world except trials and tribulations.’”

Sunan Ibn Majah 4023 It was narrated from Mus’ab bin Sa’d that his father, Sa’d bin Abu Waqqas, said: “I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, which people are most severely tested?’ He said: ‘The Prophets, then the next best and the next best. A person is tested according to his religious commitment. If he is steadfast in his religious commitment, he will be tested more severely, and if he is frail in his religious commitment, his test will be according to his commitment. Trials will continue to afflict a person until they leave him walking on the earth with no sin on him.’”

Sunan Ibn Majah 4024 Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri said: “I entered upon the Prophet (ﷺ) when he was suffering from a fever, I placed my hand on him and felt the heat with my hand from above the blanket. I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, how hard it is for you!’ He said: ‘We (Prophets) are like that. The trial is multiplied for us and so is the reward.’ I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, which people are most severely tested?’ He said: ‘The Prophets.’ I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, then who?’ He said: ‘Then the righteous, some of whom were tested with poverty until they could not find anything except a cloak to put around themselves. One of them will rejoice at calamity as one of you would rejoice at ease.’”

Sahih Muslim 2572b ‘A’isha reported Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: A believer does not receive (the trouble) of running a thorn or more than that but Allah elevates him in rank or effaces his sins because of that.

Sahih Muslim 2572e ‘A’isha reported: Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: There is no trouble that comes to a believer except that it obliterates from his sins, even if it is the pricking of a thorn.

Sahih Muslim 2572f ‘A’isha said: No trouble comes to a believer even if it is the pricking of a thorn that it becomes (the means) whereby his sins are effaced or his sins are obliterated. Yazid says: He does not know which word ‘Urwa said (whether he said Qussa or Kuffira).

Truthfulness and Lies

Sahih Bukhari Volume 8, Book 73, Number 116-Allah’s Apostle said- “Truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. And a man keeps on telling the truth until he becomes a truthful person. Falsehood leads to Al Fajur (i.e. wickedness, evil-doing), and Al Fajur (wickedness) leads to the (Hell) Fire, and a man may keep on telling lies till he is written before Allah, a liar.”

Sahih Bukhari Volume 8, Book 73, Number 83: Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, “Whoever does not give up false statements (i.e. telling lies), and evil deeds, and speaking bad words to others, Allah is not in need of his (fasting) leaving his food and drink.”

Sunan Ibn Majah 4007 It was narrated from Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) stood up to deliver a sermon, and one of the things he said was: “Indeed, fear of people should not prevent a man from speaking the truth if he knows it.” Then Abu Sa’eed wept and said: “By Allah, we have seen things that made us scared (and we did not speak up).”

Sunan Ibn Majah 4012 It was narrated that Abu Umamah said: “A man came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) at the first pillar and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, which Jihad is best?’ but he kept quiet. When he saw the second Pillar, he asked again, and he kept quiet. When he stoned ‘Aqabah Pillar, he placed his foot in the stirrup, to ride, and said: ‘Where is the one who was asking?’ (The man) said: ‘Here I am, O Messenger of Allah.’ He said: ‘A word of truth spoken to an unjust ruler.’”

Sahih Muslim 2607c ‘Abdullah reported Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: It is obligatory for you to tell the truth, for the truth leads to virtue and virtue leads to Paradise, and the man who continues to speak the truth and endeavors, to tell the truth, is eventually recorded as truthful with Allah, and beware of telling of a lie for telling of a lie leads to obscenity and obscenity leads to Hell-Fire, and the person who keeps telling lies and endeavors to tell a lie is recorded as a liar with Allah.

Thereupon He would say: Didn’t you know that such and such servant of Mine was sick but you did not visit him and were you not aware of this that if you had visited him, you would have found Me by him? O son of Adam, I asked for food from you but you did not feed Me. He would say: My Lord, how could I feed Thee whereas Thou art the Lord of the worlds? He said: Didn’t you know that such and such servant of Mine asked food from you but you did not feed him and were you not aware that if you had fed him you would have found him by My side? (The Lord would again say: ) O son of Adam, I asked drink from you but you did not provide Me. He would say: My Lord, how could I provide Thee whereas Thou art the Lord of the worlds? When he (the Holy Prophet) turned his back, Abu Musa returned to him and said: Allah’s Messenger, they (the people of Yemen) have a drink which is (made) from honey and which is prepared by cooking it until it coagulates, and Mizr is prepared from barley, whereupon Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said: Every intoxicant that detains you from prayer is forbidden.

Sunan Ibn Majah 4034 It was narrated from Abu Darda’ that my close friend (ﷺ) advised me: “Do not associate anything with Allah, even if you are cut and burned.
