What is Good and Righteousness?

Righteousness is not in turning your faces towards the east or the west. Rather, the righteous are those who believe in Allah, the Last Day, the angels, the Books, and the prophets; who give charity out of their cherished wealth to relatives, orphans, the poor, ˹needy˺ travellers, beggars, and for freeing captives; who establish prayer, pay alms-tax, and keep the pledges they make; and who are patient in times of suffering, adversity, and in ˹the heat of˺ battle. It is they who are true ˹in faith˺, and it is they who are mindful ˹of Allah˺. 2:177

Neki yeh nahin hai ke tumne apne chehre mashriq (east) ki taraf karliye ya magrib(west) ki taraf, balke neki yeh hai ke aadmi Allah ko aur yaum e aakhir aur malaika ko aur Allah ki nazil ki hui kitab aur uske paighambaron ko dil se maane aur Allah ki muhabbat mein apna dil pasand maal rishtedaaron aur yateemon par, miskeeno aur musafiron par, madad ke liye haath phaylane walon par aur ghulamo ki rihayi par kharch karey, namaz qayam karey aur zakaat de aur neik woh log hain ke jab ahad karein to usey wafa karein, aur tanggi o museebat ke waqt mein aur haqq o baatil ki jung mein sabr karein, yeh hain raast baaz log aur yahi log muttaqi (pious) hain 2:177

What will explain to you what the ascent is? It is the freeing of a slave or the feeding in times of famine of an orphaned relative or some needy person in distress, and to be one of those who believe and urge one another to steadfastness and compassion. Those who do so are the people of the right hand, and [as for] those who are bent on denying the truth of Our revelations, they are the people of the left hand, and the Fire will close in on them. Al-Quran 90:12-20

Dawat-o-Tabligh: Enjoining Good, Forbidding Evil

Holy Quran on Enjoining Good

Let there arise out of you a band of people inviting to all that is good, enjoining what is right, and forbidding what is wrong: They are the ones to attain felicity. — Quran 3:104

Ye are the best of peoples, evolved for mankind, enjoining what is right, forbidding what is wrong, and believing in Allah. If only the People of the Book had faith, it were best for them: among them are some who have faith, but most of them are transgressors. Quran 3:110

The believers, both men and women, are guardians of one another. They encourage good and forbid evil, establish prayer and pay alms-tax, and obey Allah and His Messenger. 9:71

˹It is the believers˺ who repent, who are devoted to worship, who praise ˹their Lord˺, who fast, who bow down and prostrate themselves, who encourage good and forbid evil, and who observe the limits set by Allah. Q.9:112

“O people! Establish prayer, encourage what is good and forbid what is evil, and endure patiently whatever befalls you. Q.31:17

Invite (all) to the Way of thy Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching; and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious: for thy Lord knoweth best, who have strayed from His Path, and who receive guidance. 16:125

O you who have believed, upon you is [responsibility for] yourselves. Those who have gone astray will not harm you when you have been guided. To Allāh is your return all together; then He will inform you of what you used to do. 5:105

Convey even if a single verse

Narrated ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Convey from me, even if it be an Ayah, and narrate from the Children of Isra’il, and there is no harm, And whoever lies upon me purposely, then let him take his seat in the Fire.” Jami at-Tirmidhi 2669

Change Evil with Hand, Tongue and Heart

Abu Sa’eed said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah [SAW] say: ‘Whoever among you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand; if he cannot, then with his tongue; if he cannot, then with his heart- and that is the weakest of Faith.'” Sunan an-Nasa’i 5008 Grade: Sahih (Darussalam).

Ascribing False things against Prophet

Narrated Al-Mughira: I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying, “Ascribing false things to me is not like ascribing false things to anyone else. Whosoever tells a lie against me intentionally then surely let him occupy his seat in Hell-Fire.” I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying, “The deceased who is wailed over is tortured for that wailing.” Sahih al-Bukhari 1291

It was narrated from ‘Ali that: The Prophet (ﷺ) said: ‘”Whoever narrates a Hadith from me thinking it to be false, then he is one of the two liars.” (Either the one who invents a lie or the one who repeats it; both are liars). Sunan Ibn Majah 38 Grade: Sahih (Darussalam)

Issues with Tablighi Jamat

  • Focus less on Quran, more on Books written by their allegedly Sufi Scholars and their books like Fazail-e-Amal and Muntakhab Hadith which allegedly contain false and selective Hadith.
  • Their sessions are generally one way communication with little interaction. Many a times, they are presided over by naives who have little knowledge of Quran and Sunnah but keep reading from the book of their scholars. Worse, some of the Deobandi Scholars and Imams who patronize Tablighi Jamat in their Mosques consider their activities as sheer waste of time and hardly engage their own children in them who are rather sent to best english medium schools.
  • Many of them look sleep-deprived especially in their morning sessions in Ramadan and appear to be in a sleepy subconscious state thus doing injustice both to themselves and the session. (Ignoring the needs of body also an injustice per Quran and Sunnah).
  • Only focus on few aspects of Islam, ignoring many others which are equally important for life and beyond.
  • Few aspects they keep emphasising on include “abandoning all their desires” and “hiding and overlooking mistakes of each other”, “Not judging each other”, etc which is good in and of itself but problemetic if frequently used as a decoy to evade accountability with regard to their spritual and material corruption, embezzlement of funds, rapes and sexual abuses especially of women and children with them, adultry, lies and manipulations. God knows best. Excessive overlooking and hiding of “flagrant, open and repeated sins and mistakes” of each other also goes against the “Forbiding Evil” mandate of Quran leading to more severe consequences.

If Tablighi Jamat overcomes above problems and loopholes and their members carry and preach Quran and Sahih Hadith, make their sessions interactive, also focus on socio-political, global and economic issues, divide their members works based on their interest and capabilities, then God willing, it might become more beneficial.

Allah is the best of Planners

And the disbelievers made a plan ˹against Jesus˺, but Allah also planned—and Allah is the best of planners. 3:54

Phir bani Israel ( Maseeh ke khilaf) khufiya tadbeerein karne lagey, jawab mein Allah ne bhi apni khufiya tadbeer ki aur aisi tadbeeron mein Allah sab se badh kar hai 3:54

Narrated Salim’s father: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Any person who takes a piece of land unjustly will sink down the seven earths on the Day of Resurrection.” Sahih al-Bukhari 3196

Oppression

Narrated Ibn Abbas: The Prophet (ﷺ) sent Muadh to Yemen and said, “Be afraid, from the curse of the oppressed as there is no screen between his invocation and Allah.” Sahih al-Bukhari 2448

Conducting affairs by Mutual Consultation

Those who hearken to their Lord, and establish regular Prayer; who (conduct) their affairs by mutual Consultation; who spend out of what We bestow on them for Sustenance; And those who, when an oppressive wrong is inflicted on them, (are not cowed but) help and defend themselves. The recompense for an injury is an injury equal thereto (in degree): but if a person forgives and makes reconciliation, his reward is due from Allah: for (Allah) loveth not those who do wrong. Holy Quran 42:38-40

Halal and Haram: General Rule

The General rule regarding haram and halal according to scholars is that all things by default are halal and permissible unless explicitly prohibited by Quran and Sunnah.

Ask, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Who has forbidden the adornments and lawful provisions Allah has brought forth for His servants?” Say, “They are for the enjoyment of the believers in this worldly life, but they will be exclusively theirs on the Day of Judgment. This is how We make Our revelations clear for people of knowledge.” 7:32

In se kaho kisne Allah ki us zeenat ko haraam kardiya jisey Allah ne apne bandon ke liye nikala tha aur kisne khuda ki bakshi hui paak cheezein mamnu (forbidden) kardi? Kaho, yeh saari cheezein duniya ki zindagi mein bhi iman laney walon ke liye hain, aur qayamat ke roz to khaalisatan unhi ke liye hongi. Is tarah hum apni baatein saaf saaf bayaan karte hain un logon ke liye jo ilm rakhne waley hain. 7:32

Say, “My Lord has only forbidden open and secret indecencies, sinfulness, unjust aggression, associating ˹others˺ with Allah ˹in worship˺—a practice He has never authorized—and attributing to Allah what you do not know.” 7:33

In se kaho ke mere Rubb ne jo cheezein haraam ki hain woh to yeh hain : besharmi ke kaam khwa khuley hon ya chupey, aur gunaah aur haqq ke khilaf ziyadati, aur yeh ke Allah ke saath tum kisi ko shareek karo jiske liye usne koi sanad nazil nahin ki, aur yeh ke Allah ke naam par koi aisi baat kaho jiske mutaaliq tumhein ilm na ho ke woh haqeeqat mein usi ne farmayi hai. 7:33

O you who have believed, avoid negative assumptions. Indeed, some assumption is sin. And do not spy or backbite each other. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his brother when dead? You would detest it. And fear God; indeed, God is accepting of repentance and merciful. Al-Quran 49:12

Aey logon jo imaan laaye ho, bahut gumaan (suspicion)karne se parheiz karo ke baaz gumaan (suspicion) gunaah hote hain. Tajassus (jasusi) na karo aur tum mein se koi kisi ki geebat na karey. kya tumhare andar koi aisa hai jo apne marey(dead) huey bhai ka gosht khana pasand karega? Dekho, tum khud is se gheen khate ho. Allah se daro, Allah bada tawbah qabool karne wala aur Raheem hai 49:12

Sahih Muslim 2563a Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Avoid suspicion, for suspicion, is the gravest lie in talk and do not be inquisitive about one another and do not spy upon one another and do not feel envy with the other, and nurse no malice, and nurse no aversion and hostility against one another. And be fellow brothers and servants of Allah.

Al-Nu’man ibn Bashir reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “The lawful is clear and the unlawful is clear, and between the two of them are doubtful matters about which many people do not know. Thus, he who avoids doubtful matters clears himself in regard to his religion and his honor, and he who falls into doubtful matters will fall into the unlawful as the shepherd who pastures near a sanctuary, all but grazing therein. Verily, every king has a sanctum and the sanctum of Allah is His prohibitions. Verily, in the body is a piece of flesh which, if sound, the entire body is sound, and if corrupt, the entire body is corrupt. Truly, it is the heart.” Source: Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 52, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1599
