President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday appointed Justice Vipin Sanghi as the Acting chief justice of Delhi high court. Justice Vipin Sanghi is the senior-most Judge of the Delhi High Court.
According to a communique from the Department of Justice (Appointments Division), Ministry of Law and Justice, the President in the exercise of the power conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, appointed Justice Vipin Sanghi to perform the duties of the office of Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, with effect from 13.03.2022, vide notifications dated 11.03.2022.
Who is Justice Vipin Sanghi?
Justice Vipin Sanghi is the acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court. He was born on 27th October 1961 in Nagpur and did his schooling in Delhi from Delhi Public School.
After completing the law course in the year 1986 Vipin Sanghi was enrolled with the Bar Council of Delhi as an Advocate in the same year. He thus became a third-generation lawyer after his grandfather Late Shri V. K. Sanghi, Advocate, and father Late Shri G. L. Sanghi, Senior Advocate.
After working in the office of Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, Vipin Sanghi was later appointed as a Central Government Panel Advocate and functioned as such during 1990-91.
Subsequently, he became a Central Government Panel Lawyer in the Supreme Court of India.
As a lawyer, he practiced on the Civil and the Constitutional side in the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India and Hon’ble High Court of Delhi. Vipin Sangi was designated as Senior Advocate by the Hon’ble Delhi High Court in December 2005.
He was appointed as Additional Judge of the High Court of Delhi with effect from May 29, 2006, and confirmed as a Judge on 11th February 2008. Now with the latest elevation, he has become the acting Chief Justice of the Delhi HC.
