The incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to secure a second straight win in the recently concluded Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.
While the counting is still going on, BJP and its allies have taken a comfortable lead on more than 250 assembly seats out of 403. The main rival Samajwadi Party is trailing far behind at 116 seats.
BJP’s win will be historic as it is the first time in the last 37 years that a ruling party is returning to power in politically crucial Uttar Pradesh.
In a tweet in Hindi, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath thanked and expressed gratitude to the people of UP for returning him to power with a massive mandate.

While talking to reporters, he said “Everyone had their eyes on UP, given the vastness of the state. I am thankful to the people for making us win with the majority”.
“This thumping majority is a seal of the unwavering faith of the common people in the public welfare policies of the Prime Minister”, he added.
BJP President Jagat Prasad Nadda also thanked people, supporters, and prime minister Narendra Modi for the party’s win in UP and other states.
“Congratulations to the Prime Minister and the workers after the historic results of the assembly elections”, he said in a tweet.
Surprisingly, the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party is heading for a big defeat. The party that headed the Uttar Pradesh government several times in the not-so-distant past is leading only on one seat as per the latest updates.
BJP is also set to keep its hold on Goa, Uttarakhand, and Manipur as it is leading in all these states as the counting goes on.
With respect to Punjab, the newcomer Aam Aadmi Party is poised for an astounding victory as it has taken a lead on more than 92 seats out of 117 total. Its chief ministerial designate Bhagwant Singh Mann has already thanked the public for the massive support.
