What is National Science Day?
National Science Day is celebrated on 28 February 1928 every year to commemorate the discovery of the “Raman Effect” by noble laureate CV Raman.
Also known as Raman scattering, the Raman effect is the inelastic scattering of photons by matter, signifying that there is both an exchange of energy and a change in the light’s direction.
Talking about the importance of science and technology in day-to-day life, the Prime Minister urged parents to develop a scientific temper in their children by making them scrutinize even small things around them.
Stressing the role of start-ups in promoting science and technology, the PM highlighted the importance of virtual reality and how children can benefit from virtual labs.
The PM also appreciated the role of Indian scientists in the fight against Corona. Lauding made in India vaccines, he called Covid-19 vaccines a gift of science to humanity.
In his “Man ki Baat” address earlier today, the PM also paid respectful tributes to all the scientists who have contributed significantly to enriching India’s scientific journey.
