Drug Destruction Day on June 8 to be conducted by CBIC

A total of around 42,000 kg of narcotics would be destroyed at 14 locations across the country.

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) will be conducting a Drug Destruction Day on June 8 2022 as a part of the Iconic Week of “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” (AKAM) celebrations of the Ministry of Finance to mark the 75th year of Indian independence.

A total of around 42000 kg of narcotics would be destroyed at 14 locations across the country.

The Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman would be virtually witnessing the destruction process to be held at Guwahati, Lucknow, Mumbai, Mundra/Kandla, Patna, and Siliguri, and would be addressing the officers.

Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (erstwhile Central Board of Excise & Customs) is a part of the Department of Revenue under the Ministry of Finance, Government of India.

It deals with the tasks of formulation of policy concerning levy and collection of Customs, Central Excise duties, Central Goods & Services Tax and IGST, prevention of smuggling, and administration of matters relating to Customs, Central Excise, Central Goods & Services Tax, IGST and Narcotics to the extent under CBIC’s purview.

The Board is the administrative authority for its subordinate organizations, including Custom Houses, Central Excise and Central GST Commissionerates, and the Central Revenues Control Laboratory.
