India’s Defence Ministry clarifies over Firing of Missile inside Pakistan

It expressed regret over the accidental fire and said that the Government of India has taken a serious view and ordered a high-level Court of Enquiry.

India’s Defence Ministry has issued a clarification over the accidental firing of a missile inside Pakistan.

In a press release, the defense ministry expressed deep regret over the inadvertent accident and said that the Government of India has taken a serious view and ordered a high-level Court of Enquiry.

The ministry said while the incident was “deeply regrettable, it is also a matter of relief that there has been no loss of life due to the accident”, read a statement from the Ministry of Defence in PIB Delhi.

“It is learned that the missile landed in an area of Pakistan. While the incident is deeply regrettable, it is also a matter of relief that there has been no loss of life due to the accident” the statement added.

Giving further details about the cause of the misadventure, the ministry said that “on 9 March 2022, in the course of routine maintenance, a technical malfunction led to the accidental firing of a missile”.

The defence ministry’s statement comes a day after Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Babar Iftikhar demanded an explanation from India while briefing media persons about the incident.
