Different constitutional dignitaries greeted the nation on the eve of India’s 73rd Republic Day.

Today marks the 73rd republic day of India. On this day in 1950, India officially became a constitutional and democratic republic. Every year, the Indian government celebrates this day jubilantly by showing its military might and cultural diversity on Rajpath in New Delhi.

Ahead of the republic day parade in New Delhi, security has been tightened in and around the capital region. The parade is scheduled to start half an hour later than usual this year for increased visibility in the foggy weather.

In addition to cultural performances by more than 480 artists from across the country and as many as 21 tableaux, this year’s parade will also feature for the first time a grand 75 aircraft flypast by the Indian Air Force.

Different constitutional dignitaries greeted the nation on the occasion of India’s 73rd Republic Day.

On Tuesday, the Indian President and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Shri Ram Nath Kovind offered his heartiest greetings to all Indians in his presidential address on the eve of the 73rd Republic Day.

He said that this day is an occasion to celebrate what is common to us all, our Indianness.

“India is an ancient civilization but a young republic. For us, nation-building is a constant endeavor. As in a family, so in a nation; one generation works hard to ensure a better future for the next generation,” he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to extend his republic day greetings. He is expected to visit the National War Memorial shortly.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also conveyed his Republic Day wishes on Twitter.

“On Republic Day in 1950, our country took the first step in the right direction with confidence. Salute to that first step of truth and equality,” he wrote.

Earlier on Tuesday, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu called upon youngsters to strive hard to build a strong and prosperous India as envisioned by the freedom fighters.
