Sujlam 2.0 Campaign Launched for Greywater Management

Over 6 Lakh Villages Will See Intense Activity On Solid & Liquid Waste Management Under This Campaign

Union Minister of Jal Shakti, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Tuesday launched the Sujalam 2.0 campaign for greywater management to mark World Water Day on 22 March 2022.

A Joint Advisory was also signed by 9 Ministries namely different Ministries on how greywater management will be taken up at their level based on convergence model with all those who are directly associated in program implementation.

What is Sujlam 2.0 Campaign?

Sujlam 2.0 Campaign is a program launched by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India with an objective to manage greywater through people’s participation.

The campaign seeks to mobilize communities, institutions like panchayats, schools, Anganwadi to undertake greywater management.

IEC efforts for popularizing the significance of greywater management and mobilizing collective community action will be undertaken at State, District, and local levels.

Sujlam 2.0 Campaign will see people undertake collective situation assessment, plan and implement greywater management activities.

While speaking at the launch of the Sujlam 2.0 campaign, the Union Jalshakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that the theme for this year is ‘Groundwater: making the invisible visible.

“Greywater can be best managed where it is generated and turns into a major management and infrastructure challenge if it is allowed to accumulate and stagnate”, he said.

Noting the role of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs), he said that they would work with people to ensure that greywater is managed at the most appropriate local level through the construction of household and community soak pits.

Funds to Execute the Sujlam 2.0 Campaign

Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that funds to execute the activities for greywater management can be sourced from SBM-G Phase II or through the 15th Finance Commission tied-grants or MGNREGS or through the convergence of all.

Lastly, the minister urged, all PRI and VWSC members, Swachhagrahis’, SHG leaders to intensify the Sujlam 2.0 campaign at the local level.
